In the framework of the World Cup 2014 and Olympic games of 2016 in Brazil, it was decided to strengthen the fight against drug mafia.
This time, as one of the anti-dug measures, the largest police raid in the slums of Rio de Janeiro that was never held in this district called “favelas” and which is considered as a den of a drug mafia with the huge amounts of drug haunts and fronts for drug sales, was held.
The police expected the fierce armed resistance from the local citizens, therefore the military forces on armored vehicles and helicopters were gathered to help the Brazilian security forces. Intending to achieve the surprise effect, the leaders of operation started it at dawn and finished by noon. This efficiency was achieved thanks to 2000 soldiers of Special Forces, as well as professional soldiers.
From now on, for prevention of the new growth of drug crimes in the region, the police station located on the permanent basis, will rapidly react on any information about the buying or selling of drugs.
