British experts: This is the right time to legalize drugs

18.10.2012

Recently British Independent Advisory Committee on Drug Policy released a report, in which experts of this organization insist on the idea that the storage and consumption of state-controlled drugs have no effect on the growth of the level of narcotization.

The commission committee includes such famous personalities as Professor John Strang, the economist in the field of health, Professor Alan Maynard, a former president of the Royal Society of Medicine, Ilori Finley, the former head of the Council of the British Medical Research, Professor Colin Blakemore and David Blakeyб former head of the police inspectorate.

The time to implement the decriminalization of drugs has come, - the representatives of commission stated.- Every year more than 42 000 of people got into the jail for drug crimes in Britain. We think that it would be more effective to fine them and send to the lectures about the harm that drugs cause and various rehabilitation programs”.

Experts prove the fact that significant mitigation or absolute abolition of punishment for the private cultivation of marijuana for own purposes will notably decrease the number of cultivation firms, controlled by criminals. Meanwhile, it is also mentioned in the report that legalization of heroin and cocaine will definitely do more harm than good.

The authors of the report worry about the police in Great Britain, which doesn’t work effectively. Even the detention of the major drug dealers and huge drug consignments will rarely lead to the decrease in the level of drug abuse. The educational lectures and exercises with youth in schools are often not effective and lead to the growth of drug abuse.
